IT'S A FAMILY AFFAIR
The Blue Lodge is the bed-rock of the Masonic family,
yet there are several appendent organizations which a Mason's family members can
join to share many more of their common interests and activities.
Family-oriented
activities include a range of social and entertainment programs, family outings and
community service projects, as well as numerous occasions for statewide or regional
travel. Among the appendent groups for adults, both men and women are welcomed as
members, but women typically hold the principal offices. These groups include, among
others The Order of the Eastern Star, Order of Amaranth and Order of the
Golden Chain, The White Shrine and others.
Groups for young people
build self-esteem and prepare them for citizenship through successful experience
with responsibility and leadership. Masonic youth groups include the Order of
Rainbow and Jobes Daughters for girls and the Order of DeMolay for
young men.

BECOMING
A MASON
Becoming a Freemason is one of the most significant events in your
life.
So where do you begin?
First you must meet a few qualifications.
#1.
Membership in the Masonic Lodge is open to ALL men 18 years of age or older, regardless
of race, color or religion.
#2. You must be of good character and reputation within
the community.
#3. You must believe in a Supreme Being. This belief is not proscribed,
rather we encourage you to be steadfast in the faith of your choice.

THE
FIRST STEP
Start the process by completing a petition (Application) for membership,
which you can download
from
this site, or get from a Mason that you know. Members will be happy to meet with
you and answer any questions you may have. Next, you submit your petition to Kane
Lodge at 931 Industrial Parkway here in Elkhart. Go here to get directions
to the lodge.
Your petition will be read in Lodge and a committee will be
assigned to meet with you for an interview.
The committee reports their findings
to the Lodge and a vote is taken, if the ballot is favorable you will be notified
by phone or mail on when to report to the Lodge to begin your Degree program.

THE
THREE DEGREES OF FREEMASONRY
Our three degree's are serious, educational,
time-tested teachings. Each degree has a primary lesson.
The first teaches our duty God.
The second teaches our duty to our neighbors
The third teaches our duty to ourselves
To convey our teachings we use ritual,
ceremony, drama, lectures and music.

WHAT'S
IN IT FOR ME?
After completing the third degree of masonry you will then be
a Master Mason, and be eligible for all that Freemasonry has to offer you, which
includes:
Worldwide Brotherhood
Masonic Fellowship
Meaningful Community Service
Camaraderie with other morally upright men
Opportunities for leadership
Opportunities to do charity work
Improve your public speaking skills
Opportunities to participate in dramatic arts
And in the words of a locally famous Mason: You get out of it, what you put into
it.

SOME
MIS-CONCEPTIONS ABOUT FREEMASONRY
Are we a religion?
No, but to be a Mason
you must believe in a higher power. Mason's come from all faiths. Christian, Muslim, Hindu,
Jewish, Buddhists etc.. But no atheist can ever become a Mason.
It's just a bunch
of old, rich men?
This could not be farther from the truth. Yes, we have many
refined gentlemen in the Lodge who are in their golden years, but we also boast a
very young and energetic membership as well. We cherish our senior members, whom
we learn from every day. They are a wealth of Masonic and life experience and to
listen and learn from them is truly an honor.
Freemasonry is a cult or a
secret society?
First of all, I would hope that this website would dispel
any of that nonsense.
How many cult's or "secret society's" have 4 MILLION
members worldwide, who's names are available by just surfing the web? Any organization
or group trying to do good work has it's detractors.
Indiana boast a Masonic
membership of 75,000 with over 400 Lodges in the state. All these Lodges are listed
in the phone book. How secret is that?
